  1. Setting up the program

  7. ProComm allows you to define many of your own power-up defaults for system 
  8. parameters.  You can also change a setting temporarily, use it for the current 
  9. session, then automatically go back to your default settings for the next 
  10. session.  Setup is reached via the Alt-S command.  It is divided into 6 
  11. sections:
  12.  
  13.  1)  MODEM SETUP         
  14.  2)  TERMINAL SETUP      
  15.  3)  KERMIT SETUP        
  16.  4)  GENERAL SETUP       
  17.  5)  HOST MODE SETUP     
  18.  6)  ASCII TRANSFER SETUP
  19.  S)  SAVE SETUP TO DISK

  21. Use these commands to set up your communications session before dialing.  You 
  22. can then use the on-line <PONLINE> commands to control the session once you're
  23. logged onto a system. However, you should note that these setup commands can 
  24. be used while you're on-line with a system.

  26. Press Alt-S from the Help Window or while in Terminal Mode to activate the 
  27. SetUp facility.  The screen will clear and present you with the options.
  28.  
  29. You can exit the main setup screen at any time by pressing [ESC]; any changes 
  30. you have made but not saved to disk (using the "S" option from this screen) 
  31. will be in effect only for the current ProComm session.

  33. Select a setup section by typing its number and pressing [ENTER].  The screen 
  34. will clear and display the current settings for that section.  To change a 
  35. setting, enter the number of the setting you wish to change and press 
  36. [ENTER].  Then make your change as described below.  If, after selecting a 
  37. parameter, you decide not to change it, you can retain the current value by 
  38. simply pressing [ESC].

  40. If the parameter you have selected requires a string, type in the characters 
  41. for the new string and press [ENTER].  Note that pressing [ENTER] without 
  42. typing any characters will clear the setting; if you wish to retain the 
  43. current string, press [ESC].

  45. Some parameters offer you a selection of valid values.  Press the space bar to 
  46. cycle among the available values.  When the value you desire is displayed, 
  47. press [ENTER] to accept it.

  56. If the setting you are changing requires a number, enter the new number and 
  57. press [ENTER].  ProComm will check to make sure that the number falls within a 
  58. valid range.  If you have selected a number outside that range, ProComm will 
  59. inform you of the error and allow you to select another number.

  61. After making your changes in a particular section, press [ESC] to return to 
  62. the main SetUp Menu.  If you wish to save your changes to disk, select "S" 
  63. from that menu.  If you choose the Save option, the current settings will 
  64. become your power-up defaults.  If you do not save the setup, the changes you 
  65. have made will be in effect for only the current ProComm session.
